a form of psychotherapy in which the person suffering from PTSD is gradually exposed to the trauma they experienced, in a safe way and under the direction of a therapist. It uses mental imagery, writing, or visits to the actual place where the trauma happened. This helps people face and control their fear, until the elements associated with the trauma (e.g. place where it happened) no longer cause severe anxiety.
